Further Areas of Practice
In addition to our main areas of law, we also advise and represent clients in a number of specific fields that regularly play a role in the activities of foreign companies in Turkey. As these fields are often linked to corporate law, contract drafting and dispute resolution, the related mandates are handled together with our other practice areas.
Aviation and Transport Law
Claims for loss of, damage to or delayed delivery of goods in road, sea and air transport are governed by the specific liability and time-limit rules of international conventions. We advise carriers, shippers, logistics companies and cargo insurers on asserting and defending such claims, in recourse proceedings and on the drafting of carriage, freight forwarding and warehousing contracts. In aviation, we support airlines and their insurers in liability disputes arising from the carriage of passengers and cargo.
Customs and Foreign Trade Law
For companies importing goods into or exporting goods from Turkey, questions of tariff classification, origin, customs value and inward processing translate directly into cost and compliance risks. We accompany our clients in objections and court actions against additional assessments and fines imposed by the customs administration, in the release of seized goods and in the drafting of foreign trade contracts. Experience shows that a significant share of disputes can be avoided if documents and contractual terms are reviewed before the customs declaration is filed.
Insurance Law
Insurers, reinsurers and insurance intermediaries require ongoing legal support in interpreting policy conditions, assessing claims and enforcing recourse rights. We advise and represent insurers in rejecting unjustified claims and in recourse proceedings, and policyholders in enforcing their claims for compensation. In cross-border loss cases, we coordinate with the country offices of the Schindhelm Alliance.
